Günther J. Horvath is the President of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC), the premier international arbitration institution in Central and Eastern Europe. In his previous role as a long-time partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP for 35 years, he has led the firm’s International Arbitration Group in Vienna. Günther is known for his wide range of expertise. He specializes in advice and representation of closely held and growing business enterprises, corporate transactions and in international commercial arbitration, particularly, in energy, corporate law and post-M&A matters, as well as industrial engineering disputes. He has acted as counsel and arbitrator in over 150 high-profile disputes under the rules of ICC, UNCITRAL, ICSID, LCIA, SCC, VIAC and in ad-hoc arbitrations. Günther works as an independent Rechtsanwalt in Vienna and holds Board seats in leading European industrial companies.
